Dear Visitor,
research with neutrons plays a definitive role in our understanding of materials
features in the world around us. In order to secure Europe’s leading role in this
field of science and technology, a new neutron source facility is necessary. The
planned European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the most advanced neutron scattering
facility in the world to offer the unique capabilities of the innovative long
pulse spallation source concept.
It is the firm intention of the Hungarian government and scientific community
to participate in the realization of the ESS facility. The Hungarian bid relates
to the project laid down in the ESFRI Roadmap, i.e. the 5 MW long pulse target
station. It is considered that the construction of ESS in Hungary would be in
full coherence with the intention of the European Union to support the new member
states and improve the regional balance of research infrastructure.
